Lovelogiq, the emerging R&B sensation hailing from Los Angeles, has just unveiled his stunning new single, "Tha New D’Angelo". This soul-stirring single pays homage to the legendary R&B icon, D'Angelo, while also marking Lovelogiq's own unique footprint in the genre.
Accompanying “Tha New D’Angelo” is a visually captivating music video directed by Mo' Staxx. The video pays homage to D'Angelo's classic "Untitled (How Does It Feel)" while adding a contemporary twist, showcasing Lovelogiq’s deep appreciation for the genre's roots. Additionally, the cover artwork is a tribute to D'Angelo's classic Voodoo album. With this in mind, we wanted to delve into Lovelogiq's favourite D'Angelo songs. Here are 5 D'Angelo songs he loves and why...
"Lady"
I picked this song because it’s just the quintessential, fly, romantic love song. So funky with Raphael Saadiq on that bassline. Lyrically cool and charismatic. He reassures her off the bat, in such a matter-of-fact kind of way: “Don’t think I'm sick of lookin atcha. All of em wishin’ they could have ya”. In just those few lines he lets his girl know that he’s fully aware that she is in demand, but he’s claiming her.
"Me And Those Dreamin' Eyes Of Mine"
I love this song because it is tied to the visual so much for me. I picture D’Angelo on all the instruments showcasing the talent that help make such a gospel-infused funk groove. A complete musician. The type of song tailormade for a smokey blues lounge in the cut somewhere.
"The Line"
I chose this song because lyrically it spoke to me. It almost seemed like he was speaking an affirmation over himself, against an industry that might try to corrupt one’s artistic integrity. He never folded and I respect him for it. I sing this song all the time.
"Untitled (How Does It Feel)"
How could this song not make the list?! Seriously! He conjured all the legends for this R&B classic standard. You hear Marvin, Al Green, Prince, and more in the “gumbo”. And of course the iconic music video just puts this song in the Hall of Fame rafters for R&B and music in general. And, of course, it inspired my most recent single and visual for “Tha New D’Angelo”.
