1. Collectively: Work It - Soulwax Remix (Marie Davidson, Soulwax)
If there’s one band we all love and view as an endless source of inspiration it must be Soulwax. Soulwax is an Electrohouse/Rockgroup from our friendly neighbour country Belgium. We have been listening to this band since we did our first mega tour through all of the Netherlands, alongside with a whole bunch of awesome bands (Popronde. Go check it out). We used to play all the Popronde afterparty’s. That meant we often drove home at 4 in the morning while we all were expected to be in class the next morning. Out of solidarity with whoever was behind the wheel that night (mostly Daniël) we all tried to stay awake. We used to play Soulwax really loudly and sing along with all the guitar riffs.
Work it is such a cool track. It’s the ultimate ‘’getting-sh*t-done track’’. We love the sassy voice. We love the flutter delay. We love the message.“Work It” asserts that labor can be empowering, sexy, and revolutionary, as long as it is on YOUR terms.Soulwax started off as a rockband but now they are incredibly electronic and synthy. As you might have noticed we love crossing bridged between worlds that might not be connected at first sight. We are really excited that more and more bands are marrying rock guitars and electronic beats.
2. Sob: Make Believe - Kero Kero Bonito
This song has the power to lift me up on dark days. If you know Kero Kero Bonito a bit, you know they are known for their fun, electronic, gameboy sounding bleep bloop tracks. When I heard them for the first time, I did not know what I was hearing. I never heared anything like it and I fell in love with them instantly. When they dropped ‘’Time ’n’ Place’’ they did the exact opposite from what Soulwax did. They went from cute Casio 8bit collective to full on rockband, but with amazing and adorable synth sounds and really well written and smart songs.
This album is bubble gummy but also has a sad undertone. For me this song represents a tainting of naivety and innocence that lots of us lose over time. I often find myself looking for the softer side of life. Maybe that’s why we (45AB) are spending so much time building our pink world. This song really makes me feel heard.
3. Daniël: Make some Noise - Beastie Boys
Fat breakbeat drum loops, tight rhythmic hooks, and an unstoppable surge of energy—everything that fuels the sound of 45AB. It’s a high-octane mix of raw power and infectious grooves, built to keep the momentum going and the crowd moving.
4. Robin: change yr mind - LCD Soundsystem
It’s a nervously groovy song that grows like a fever. There is a clear melody of a song and a very danceable groove. Something we know, and though good, nothing we haven’t seen before. On the other hand, there is a guitar melody that dances around, having nothing to do with the melody though. Sometimes not even with the tonality. But it seamlessly complements, and for me, completes the song. It is completely atonal most of the time, directly addressing your subconscious emotions, like someone singing in a language you don’t understand sometimes doesn’t need to be understood but just needs to be felt.
5. Nina: Brainwasher - Autolux
