This month, songstress and producer Andrea Turk released her latest single, the hyperpop anthem "GP5." She dabbles in sapphic themes and lyricism, toeing the line between confessional storytelling and danceable beats. Hailing from Indonesia and based in New York, her professional background as a vocalist and composer has led her to become one of the newest voices in the alternative pop scene.
We sat down with Turk to discuss her biggest influences, and her some of her favorite tracks.
"enknee1" - hemlocke springs
"I love how it modulates. It almost turns in a different song in the middle when it open ups which captures the meaning of longing perfectly."
"Break Free " - Ariana Grande
"I love that the lyrics don’t make any sense but it works melodically. It’s truly one of the best hooks I’ve heard in a pop song. Max Martin is such a genius."
"Unwritten" - Natasha Bedingfield
"t’s just an absolute banger and timeless classic. It’s one of the songs that keeps me going when my bank account is low because it’s just a physical manifestation of what happiness would sound like."
"Six (Umru Remix)" - Kacy Hill, umru
"The production is so inspiring because it left no crumbs! It gives you blue balls because the song itself never drops. It’s risky but genius because it leaves you wanting more. "
"Vroom Vroom" - Charli XCX
"I love how this song is so fun, yet so simple and still catchy. The switch between major and minor keeps it interesting and adds to the excitement - and of course, that’s mother!"
