Following the release of her latest single 'Now', we caught up with US alt-pop artist ellakate to find out what influences her eclectic sound. If you enjoy ellakate's picks be sure to check out 'Now' at the end of the article.
1. End of the Road - Noga Erez
"End of the Road by Noga Erez has to be one of the coolest songs I know. I can’t count the amount of times I have listened to this song. The beginning really pulls you in with insanely cool vocal layers. I love the attitude in her voice, and her cadence is so captivating."
2. Eat Your Young - Hozier
"Eat Your Young by Hozier is such an interesting song. It is so compelling both sonically and lyrically. The idea that adults issues are often harming children is so prevalent and important, and I love how Hozier portrays that in this song. It’s catchy yet haunting, and I love that."
3. Caught Up In A Dream - Sarah Kinsley
"Caught Up In A Dream by Sarah Kinsley is genuinely one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. You can feel the emotion in every word Sarah Kinsley sings. I love music that I can feel, and this song never fails to bring me in. Her voice and lyricism is incredible."
4. The Blade - AURORA
"The Blade by AURORA makes me feel vulnerable yet powerful at the same time. AURORA is such an emotional vocalist, and she commands you to listen to what she has to say and feels. In the end of the song when she is singing “I feel the rage”, I feel her overpoweringly. I love the vocal effects in the chorus and the range she shows in this song."
5. Last Dance - Donna Summer
"Last Dance by Donna Summer is a lifelong favorite of mine. I have been singing along to this song since I was probably 6 years old. I love how it starts out slow and emotional then picks up to such a sick groove. I adore Donna Summer and when she sings this song, it's like I can visually see the whole story."
