5 Songs I Love w/ FEYEN

We caught up with Belgian artist Roger Feyen aka 'FEYEN' following the release of his debut album 'Hoʻoponopono'. Known for melding the grandeur of rock opera with the spiritual practice of communal meditation Flex wanted to find out what influences his eclectic sound.

If you enjoy FEYEN's picks be sure to check out 'Hoʻoponopono' at the end of the article.

1. Radiohead - Creep

This is one of the first songs I covered when I started making rock music. I started writing music very early when I was 4 years old. A few years later I started playing live with my dad on tour.  Creep was one of the first tracks I ever played when my own rock band got together. Later on, I saw them playing live at a festival and it hit me deeply. The song is always reminding me of very good rocknroll times in my life.

2. Pearl Jam - Alive

Pearl Jam is one of the bands I saw live on stage at the same festival actually. When I began to organize my own festivals I named one of them ALIVE. It took place for many years, 13 indeed!  It is transferring a feeling of freedom, and gratitude that we are alive. Feeling life itself pulsing through your veins. Very good song to party!

3. Charlie Chaplin - Smile

Very deep meaningful lyrics. Showing even if everything is feeling hopeless, just smile and the sun will always rise up again. Even Michael Jackson picked up on it a lot. The song is a real encourager. I performed that song live in New York in Birdland Club in a swing version. I love to remember these times.

4. Robert Miles - Children

This was the beginning of electronic music. Robert Miles is one of the biggest icons, also during the same times as 'Creep' and 'Alive'. I love this song and the whole vibe connected to it a lot lot!

5. Prince - Purple Rain

Purple Rain is also a song that I am performing live a lot. I am putting a lot of heart and soul into it. That song is a very iconic one from Prince. He put a very unique feeling into it with his guitar, it's a very good one to move the masses. To bring a bigger group in a frequency to sing along. It also reminds me of the Super Bowl performance. A very emotional song.
