Gabriella Raelyn has just released her new song, 'Crush at first sight...', a sultry pop-infused track exploring the dark feminine aspects of desire.
We sat down with Raelyn to chat about 5 songs that inspire her and her music.
The Phantom of the Opera - Andrew Lloyd Webber, Emmy Rossum, Gerard Butler
It took me way too long to actually watch this film. It was released in 2004, yet I only managed to see it for the first time in 2021! Full body chills the first time I heard this song. I love a dramatic organ, and right away this song delivers. Not to mention how beautiful the melody is! One of my favorite songs of all time.
Funeral Procession of Love - Buck Tick
No one does it like Buck Tick. They are one of those bands that makes me wish I could time travel back to the 90s to see them in concert. That being said, this particular song is one of their more recent ones, yet I haven’t seen anyone mention it! I also love ‘Dress’ and ‘Kiss Me Goodbye’ by them, but this song in particular needs to be hyped up more. So evocative and haunting.
Lovesong - The Cure
This song is so good. I’m a sucker for professions of undying love, and these lyrics fit the bill to a ‘t’. I love how the structure of the songs is two verses, and then the chorus. It just makes the song feel more rewarding when it does open up to the hook. Honestly, any song by The Cure is amazing. My honorable mentions of theirs are ‘Cold’ and ‘Let’s Go To Bed’.
Rebel Love Song - Black Veil Brides
I absolutely love how theatrical Black Veil Brides music is. Their storytelling is so vivid, listening to them is like watching a movie play out in my head. ‘Rebel Love Song’ in particular is a song about people choosing to be together despite the odds being stacked against them, sort of in a Romeo and Juliet manner. The chorus itself is so romantic, not just in the lyrics but in the chord progressions and melody as well. It was a favorite when I was 12, and still a favorite today.
Theme of Laura - Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill 2)
One of my dreams is to make music for a video game, so of course I had to mention one of my all-time favorite video game tracks. No vocals for this one, but a very atmospheric, melancholy melody played by electric guitar. I always have to play it when it’s foggy out.
