5 Songs I Love w/ Laura Jadi

Following the release of her latest single 'don't get too close' Flex caught up with genre-defying artist Laura Jadi to find out more about what influences her eclectic sound. If you enjoy Laura's picks be sure to check out 'don't get too close' at the end of the article.

1. Hard Out Here - RAYE

I find this song powerful because it depicts a very strong woman climbing to the top while facing and overcoming many challenges that women face regularly. Still, it’s groovy and I love to just dance to it in my kitchen.

2. Wesley Joseph - Ultramarine

This song is absolutely insane to me. I love the vibe, production, the overpowering dark, trance-like feeling… I used to have these late night shifts and on the drive back, I’d listen to this song on repeat. And then when I got home, I’d do this weird dance to it, where I’d imagine my body is floating. Don’t tell anyone.

3. Lola Young - Conceited

I mean… The genre fusion, the sassy message, the energy, I love love love. Though I mostly listen to her when I actually did the opposite of what she sings about and almost sacrificed myself for a guy. It’s like a form of self-empowerment for me to listen to her.

4. Libianca - People

Beautiful delivery, an angelic vibe, I resonate with the whole song. Wanting to be understood while going through a really dark time, yet not having anyone to notice or provide proper support is a challenge almost everyone faces at one point. People can’t be around you all the time, everyone has their own stuff going on. But sometimes, it does get too much to bear alone, and then you just do it alone anyway. And then you realise it’s best because people don’t really know you.

5. Joyner Lucas - Revenge

If you manage to write a track that sounds like mumble rap but makes total sense and is self-reflective, that is something else. To me, the hustle mentality combined with interpersonal ignorance that he talks about is very relatable, and the whole vibe of the track is aggressive, so it’s on repeat when I go to the gym.
