We caught up with alternative artist Lefturn following the release of her raunchy new single 'Animal Style'. Lefturn has handpicked 5 tracks she loves for us and why, check them out below and if you're a fan, be sure to add 'Animal Style' to your playlist!
1 .Prince - Baby I'm A Star
This is easily my favourite song of all time. If I'm ever down or feeling insecure this track always makes me feel unstoppable. The musicianship, the production, the performance are all like masterclasses of how it should be done. I have memories of listening to Prince with my mum and siblings from when I was a young child so he will always have a place in my heart.
2. Stevie Wonder - Master Blaster
Another genius I had to feature. Stevie is a huge inspiration to me. He is one of the rare artists that are completely timeless. This is my favourite Stevie track. The energy is just so uplifting and funky. It sounds like it was so effortless to write and perform which makes it so infectious.
3 .Janelle Monae - Don't Judge Me
I absolutely love this song. It scratches an itch that no other can. It's equally groovy and tranquil. The lyrics are so intimate and vulnerable which is so difficult to pull off, but it's just done so well. Janelle Monae is an artist that I look upto because of their artistry and unapologetic queer identity.
4. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Suck My Kiss
The energy this song gives off is incredible whilst using an almost simplistic bass riff throughout almost the whole song. I think it's the riff that makes it almost hypnotic. I love to listen to this song if I need to get hyped up or out of a slump. Such an iconic band. Flea was the bass player that made me fall in love with the bass.
I have listened to them since I was young so it always brings back memories of my brothers when I listen to them.
5. Dijon - Skin
Dijon is one of my favourite "newer" artists. His lyrics are always so novel-like. It's like listening to a folk, funky piece of literature. His energy is so refreshing, especially on this track.
I love everything about it. I was feeling insecure about my artistry about six months ago and then Dijon released "Absolutely" the album and it completely reassured me for some reason. So Dijon definitely deserves a mention.
