Following the release of his latest single 'Sky', taken from his upcoming album 'THE BOX', Flex caught up with Pop-Rock artist Lord Vanger to find out more about what influences his sound. If you enjoy Lord Vanger's picks be sure to check out 'Sky' at the end of the article.
1. Bryan Ferry - Don’t Stop the Dance
It’s hard to be cool, but Bryan Ferry pulls it off effortlessly in this iconic 80s track.
2. Talking Heads - Burning Down the House
By the time Jonathan Demme made Stop Making Sense, Talking Heads had crossed over into the mainstream. This is the live version, with keyboardist Bernie Worrell, percussionist Steve Scales, guitarist, Alex Weir adding extra power and groove.
3. Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer
Because the song was such a smash, everybody assumes it was a given that Gabriel would dominate the MTV generation. But when he recorded the album Gabriel was a fringe artist making music in a converted barn deep in the English countryside. He put up his own money to make the video and it all still sounds and looks fresh.
4. Sade - No Ordinary Love
There was a time when you couldn’t go anywhere in the world without hearing Adu Sade’s sultry vocals. But many don’t realise that the band behind the music was cutting edge and managed to reinvent its sound on each of their albums, taking out the live drums and saxes and replacing them with minimalist loops and distant guitars.
5. Simply Red - Something Got Me Started
Mick Hucknall always had the voice but with the multi-platinum smash album Stars he proved that he could also write hits. This album is a classic and watching it played live is always a thrill.
