5 Songs I Love w/ Silver Jack

Silver Jack releases his new track, 'Tired!' today. A confessional piece reflecting on the times, the track arrives in response to the landscape of our current world.

Bedroom artist to self-made musician, Silver Jack took the reins on all production, vocals, and composition elements himself. He crafts a sound that is truly him, through and through – and he is only just getting started.

We sat down with Silver Jack to discuss the songs that inspire his music and self-made artistry.

David Bowie: Lazarus

Mr Bowie in his last ever album Blackstar, delivered this genius jazz rock track, an ultimate swan song with a stunning music video to go with it. The poignant lyrics and his iconic style rendered into an unbelievable rock song sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it. The sax at the end complementing his amazing vocals giving a music high is haunting to every listener and as a musician, this song just gives a sense of satisfaction which is the genres of Jazz, Goth and Rock all compiled into one amazing song!

Elton John: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

What can anyone say about this beautiful track? How many times have humans decided that they want something else than the things they are forced to do. I have always looked up to Elton John’s amazing piano playing style. This style of playing goes in tandem with his singing. Base chord playing is one thing but manipulating the chords to make the piano sing as well while enhancing his vocals and the overall song is pretty amazing.

Sam Smith: I'm Not The Only One

Dear Sam, thank you for teaching me what falsetto is. Yes, Sam taught me falsetto. Atleast this song is the first time I heard someone singing in falsetto. And the amazing chord structure with a slow-paced tempo and the arrangement of the strings hit right on the spot of what the song is trying to convey. “But when you call me baby, I know I’m not the only one” is probably the best love song lyric I have heard these last two decades from a contemporary artist.

The Beatles: While My Guitar Gently Weeps (The Beatles Love show by Cirque du Soleil Version)

This song is the first song I learned to play in the guitar when I started learning all those years ago. Perhaps this is also the song that made me relate to my grandfather. I’ve never met my mom’s dad as he died before I was born but my grandmother told me at the time to learn the song as this song used to be heard and enjoyed by him all the time. Perhaps, through this song, I felt closer to him. And musically, it became such an impact on my life as well because of the constant changeovers.

Kanye West: Heaven and Hell

Kanye came very late to my life. Coming from India, I knew him as that guy who had a song in the movie, “Never Back Down”.  But when I started producing and when I discovered him, on the suggestion of a friend, I understood that we are all living in his world.  Yes, Heaven and Hell is one of his iconic songs for me and the whole album, Donda, is amazing!
