5 Songs I Love w/ Solarrio

We sat down with Solarrio after the release of his stellar new tune 'Can't Wait', to discuss what influences shaped his unique sound. Be sure to check out the single at the bottom and follow him on socials!

Holland Izz - Don’t take my style

I chose this one because Holland is one of my favorite artists right now and someone that’s very inspiring both personally and professionally. This is my favorite song of his, produced by Antdawg. be on the lookout for their collaborative project titled “Easy to be mad, hard to be happy” dropping very soon.

Charli XCX - Stay Away

Since I started the Solarrio project, Charli XCX has been a big influence.  I feel a lot of her songs have the spirit of the 80’s and 90’s mixed with modern production, which is kind of what I’m doing. This particular song is my favorite. I I keep coming back to it whenever I’m looking for inspiration or if I want to get in the zone. Really love her vocals on this track and the production is A1. And also super happy to see her success with her latest project.

Gap Band - Early in the morning

The band is one of my favorite bands of all time and I chose this particular song because I remember sampling it when I first started making beats and it’s been in rotation ever since. I went to see Charlie Murphy perform earlier this year with Midnight Star, SOS band, Morris Day, Evelyn “Champagne” King, and the Dazz Band and it was incredible. Probably the best concert I’ve been to in my whole life.

Nx Worries - Where do I go

Anderson .Paak has been one of the most interesting artists to watch over the last five years. I first got put onto him when he dropped his Malibu project and everything he’s done has been fire. His latest project with knowledge as no worries was one of my favorite albums of 2024 and this particular song featuring October London is definitely the cherry on top.  It’s got that vintage soul vibe that reminds me of The Stylistics and other legendary groups from that era.

Cherrelle - Didn’t mean to turn you on

I had to choose one song that was produced and written by Jimmy jam and Terry Lewis, since they pretty more or less laid down the blueprint for my music along with Prince, Gap Band and others. I decided to go with this Cherelle banger because it’s one of my favorites and it was definitely a huge inspiration while I was working on the “all the wrong places” album.  Super infectious groove and love the synths on this.
