1. Catfish and the Bottlemen - Showtime
This track is on repeat for me right now, and it has definitely got me excited for what's next. Back in highschool, Catfish were one of my absolute favourite bands and to this day I still listen and play along to all of their records. They have got the perfect "indie rock" sound and are one of the best bands I've been lucky enough to see live. This track is their first track in years, so it's safe to say we're all glad to see them coming back.
2. Royal Blood - Mountains at Midnight
I got to see Royal Blood back in September at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto, and I was completely blown away. Tonally, these guys are absolutely locked in and redefine the term "wall of sound". Probably the heaviest sound I've ever heard from a two piece band, and the new track really showcased the precision and depth of their chemistry, and how far they have come since the first record. This one is definitely going to be in the reference track pool for our next record, just so we can emulate a bit of that upfront and in your face attitude that this track has.
3. Bad Nerves - You've Got The Nerve
Classic god-damned in your face no bullshit no holds barred dirty-dog punk rock.
4. The Beaches - What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Paranoid
I don't think you could've turned on the radio last summer without hearing a track off of The Beaches new album. Blame Brett really took Toronto by storm, and this track is my favourite track the record. It's really awesome to see other bands from your city doing well and putting out great music, and it motivates me to contribute as much as I can to the music scene in our city. I got to see them live last summer and they absolutely crushed it, so be sure to give this record a spin!
5. Mitski - My Love All Mine
This song is quite incredible. I heard it at the perfect time, which was on the ride home from a show in the early hours of the morning. I distinctly remember there being a full moon when I heard it, and it was very moving. A good reminder that not every song has to be complete chaos or wow you in some way. Sometimes you can just accept that you are effete, and surrender to the beauty and grace.
