Following the release of his latest single 'MILKY WAY SKYLINE', Flex caught up with US indie-pop artist WINSTON ViSTA to find out what influences his eclectic sound. If you enjoy WINSTON ViSTA picks be sure to check out 'MILKY WAY SKYLINE' at the end of the article.
1. The Spinners - It's A Shame
This one's an all time classic, I love the way each layer comes in, just starting with the two guitars, then just kicks and that hi-hat, then it's really on when the horns finally hit. And when he starts singing high, it gets me every time.
2. The Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby
No doubt about it, I view Brian Wilson as the godfather of pop music as we know it, the vocal melodies and harmonies on this track are out of this world.
3. Johnny Thunders - I Wanna Be Loved
The rawness & energy of this track is something else, it's got me bouncing off the walls every time I hear it.
4. Gothic Curves - Brand New Princess
I love the super smooth catchy vocal melodies over those gritty guitars. And I think the abrupt ending really captures the theme of the lyrics too.
5. Secret B - What If It Doesn't
Another beautiful track; with the lead guitar shining over that boom bap inspired beat. This one was a big part of my summer soundtrack this year, oh and I think the double negative of the chorus lyrics is brilliant too.
