Following the release of her debut 5-track EP 'Exotic Exorcism Pt.1', Flex caught up with French-Moroccan artist yaje to find out more about what influences her eclectic electronic pop sound. If you enjoy yaje's picks be sure to check out 'Exotic Exorcism Pt.1' at the end of the article.
1. FKA Twigs - Eusexua
If you were to ask me which song I wish I had written, this would probably be it. I feel like this is the closest thing to what I aspire to be making right now in terms of music and art. I don’t think I’ll ever get over that music video…
2. Crystal Castles - Empathy
I’ve loved this song for over two decades now and it still hits me the same. Makes me feel like myself and out of this world at the same time.
3. Caroline Polachek - Welcome to my Island
I could have picked the entire album to be honest, but this song stands out because it’s so uplifting, it has hope and excitement and summer and beginnings and everything positive I can think of embedded in it - just instantly pulls me out of darkness. 100% recommend. Also even more efficient if you can land that introductory scream. Her vocals are just out of this world.
4. ascendent vierge - Influenceur
Can’t not go crazy when I listen to this track. It has everything I love: blending breakbeat, melodic hard techno and pop, it has that 90s-2000s nostalgic vibe and is so fun to sing !! The lyrics and tone are also spot on, perfectly conveying their satirical message. + Their aesthetic is incredible and they’re always rocking the slickest outfits.
5. Charli XCX feat Troye Sivan - Talk talk featuring troye sivan
My current “getting ready to go out” track (along with every single Brat song let’s be honest) - gets me in the mood everytime, sooo old school, sooo fresh, sooo fun + bonus points for all the french bits. Brat summer 4 eva & eva.
