Bristol based indie band Chasing Kites recently release the melancholic, reflective and intimate new single 'Falling'. Showcasing some beautiful musicality and genuine emotive artistry, the track is a great example of the heartfelt songwriting that the band are capable.
We wanted to find out more about what inspired the track (and the bands music in general). Here's 5 of the band's faves!
London Grammar - Strong
When it came to writing the guitars for ‘Falling’ I was instantly inspired by London Grammar’s ‘Strong’. The guitar work in that song is minimalistic, but complements the song’s mood perfectly, creating a sense of spaciousness and tension. The reverb-drenched riffs and soft arpeggios help establish the track's haunting quality.
Ben Howard - Esmerelda
I absolutely could have chosen any track from this seminal album from Ben Howard. I often return to this specific track as a form of respite from the indie rock music that saturates my playlists. I seem to remember this one being present around the time of the writing of Falling.
Wunderhorse - Morphine
An unforgettable track that blends raw emotion with haunting melodies. It reminds me of a great time in my life, transporting me back to that moment. The lyrics create a personal connection, and the alt-rock sound helps put me in my own world, completely immersed.
JAWS - 17
One of my favourite tracks by one of my favourite bands. Jaws inspired me so much and I don’t think I’d be in band without them (tears will be shed when they split up next year). I was once ridiculed for saying this was the “chillest song of 2K16”. Probably fair enough.
The Last Dinner Party - On Your Side
A favourite track of ours from one of the best albums of the year. The way they're able to blend modern indie rock with vintage influences has been a huge influence on us.
