Singer/songwriter Lily Hain has just released her latest single, "Internalize." A departure from her former work, the track calls on the pop-punk of the early 2000s, much like Avril Lavigne, as it dissects, "...the frustration of constantly doing the inner work on myself to grow and heal only to still allow others to walk over my boundaries and make me feel small," according to Hain.
We sat down with Hain to discuss some of her favorite tunes, and how they inspire her!
1. Walking On A Dream - Empire of the Sun
"Walking on a dream is one of my all time favorite songs. I’ve listened to it hundreds, if not thousands of times, and it never gets old. It just has such a great groove to it and it’s one of those songs you can listen to in any setting."
2. Everything I Wanted - Billie Eilish
"Billie Eilish is one of my biggest musical inspirations. I’ve been lucky enough to hear 'Everything I Wanted' live twice and I sobbed both times (and generally I’m not really someone that cries at concerts). The song's production is really cool and the lyrics hit close to home."
3. Ribs - Lorde
"I listened to Lorde in high school but I only discovered 'Ribs' in 2021. I love the vocal layers/textures and how nostalgic feeling the song is. I especially relate to the lyrics about the fear of getting older."
4. Scarlett - Holly Humberstone
"Holly Humberstone is right up there with Billie Eilish in terms of what artists inspire me the most. I could have chosen almost any of Holly’s songs but I think 'Scarlett' stands out to me in particular because it’s so upbeat and catchy."
5. Ready to run - The Chicks
"I grew up listening to The Chicks and every time I hear them it reminds me of the mountains of North Carolina. I love so many of their songs but I think 'Ready to Run' stands out in particular because it’s about leaving your hometown, straying from the norm, and carving your own path."
"Internalize" is available across streaming platforms.
