5 Songs I Love W/ NIA

Dutch neo-soul newcomer NIA has burst onto the scene in style. Her gorgeous debut single '111' has already gained her a spot on the coveted New Music Friday on Spotify, setting the tone for her upcoming EP.

Showcasing her abilities as a songwriter, vocalist and cellist (for which she is well renowned having toured the world with the likes of Burna Boy and Emily Sandé) the track is rich with warming live instrumentation, strings and electronics elements under the infectious, silky lead vocals. We wanted to know more about what music inspires Nia - here's Nia with 5 of her favourites:

Lauryn Hill - Ex-Factor

I remember being 4, 5 years old and asking my mom to play the cassette of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” in the car every morning driving to school. I absolutely love every single tune and it has definitely been one of the most influential albums in my music development.

Sade - Kiss of Life

Sade is another artist that has had an influence on me since a very young age. I’ve always admired how her soft, velvety vocals make you feel such power and energy.

Yebba - Waterfall (I adore you)

One of those songs that are so interesting to dive into and can learn so much from. Definitely a very strong influence for fields and sounds I want to explore in the future.

Thundercat - Fair chance

I was listening to this album during lockdown. Particularly this song. Simply love it and it definitely gave me a push to pursue my own music.

Robert Glasper - Cherish the day

I’ve always found it hard to combine all the music genres I love into one and make my own sound of it. But this is the album that gave me this secure feeling 100%. Lalah Hathaway’s voice adds so much richness and energy to this song. One of my absolute favorite albums.
