Last week, R&B artist Trav Torch released his album 100% Torch, an ode to true, melodic romance. His suave, silky vocals and hypnotic 90's-inspired beats are reminiscent of his acclaimed earlier work, with an innovative twist. Tracks "Can I Have You Tonight?" (produced by Tony Sway, known for his work with Tyga and Krayzie Bone), and "I Don't Want to Be Alone Tonight" (which features rapper Bizzy Bone) are clear winners.
We sat down with Trav Torch to discuss his influences, and what tracks in particular inspire him!
"I Ain't Mad At Cha" - 2Pac
"This is just one of my favorite songs of all time by one of my favorite artists of all time. I love everything about it... the piano-based beat, 2Pac's lyrics and flow, the feel of the song, etc."
2. "Thriller" - Michael Jackson
"Besides the fact that MJ is one of my favorite artists and biggest musical inspirations, this song (and accompanying music video) is just straight up iconic. The music video was years ahead of its time and paved the way for long-form music videos."
3. "In My Bed" - Dru Hill
"I've connected with this soulful song ever since the first time I heard it. I could play it
every single day and never get tired of it. The lyrics and emotion are incredible."
4. "Meeting In My Bedroom" - Silk
"This is the ultimate love-making song. It's hard to find another song of this type with such well executed lyrics and harmonies."
5. "My Heart Will Go On" - Celine Dion
"Everything about this song is incredible. The feel, the lyrics, Celine's voice. When she hits the high notes in this song I literally get the chills. This song is a masterpiece."
100% Torch is available across streaming platforms.
