R&B artist WAYI has just dropped her alluring new single 'Chill'. The tantalising new track shows off a soulful and softer side to the Belgium-based artist who has previously had success from edgier tracks such as 'Mind Mazes and 'Insecure'. We wanted to find out a little bit more about the music that inspires this versatile artist. Make sure to check out 'Chill' below!
I Wonder - Kanye West
I've been listening to this song for over more than 10 years and it is still on many of my playlists. “I wonder” takes me many places: I listen to it while hitting the treadmill for some good vibes and energy but also while daydreaming and meditating.
Strange Fruit - Nina Simone
I find it so beautiful how Nina interpreted this song. It is about the lynching of black men in America. Although fortunately, we have never experienced such horrible moments, Nina still takes you through those painful moments with her vulnerable vocals. Holding back tears is hard. That’s why I listen to this song when I'm in the bath or when I’m alone in my room.
Tennessee Whiskey - Chris Stapleton
It was my brother who introduced me to this song. Country music is not necessarily something I vibe with easily, but I love this song! I think the way he uses liquor imagery to describe the love of his life is genius.
What You Won’t Do For Love - Bobby Caldwell
The first time hearing this song was on Tupac's version of "Do for love." WHAT A VIBE!I I immediately started doing research and heard the original singer Bobby Caldwell. And since then I have been listening to both versions.
Brown Sugar - D'Angelo
Sunday night, you're wearing your boyfriends' T-shirt, lying on the sofa with a glass of wine and D'Angelo music. That's all you need for a cute and cozy evening. To be honest, it wasn't easy to choose one particular song by D’Angelo, but “Brown Sugar" has always been the song that melts my heart when I put it on.
