5 Things That Inspire Me w/ Francois Klark

Francois Klark made his return with the soul filling winter warmer track 'Back Together' at the end of last month, just in time for you to cozy up and grab a mulled wine to enjoy it with.

To celebrate its release we caught up with the Canadian native to discuss the 5 things that inspire him...

Choreography

There are few things that fire up my creativity the way a great piece of choreography does. There is something about the marriage between music and dance that sets my chest on fire and makes my mind race. Some of my choreo crushes are Koharu Sugawara, Keone and Mari, Chachi Gonzales

This badass performance by Koharu Sugawara at Urban Dance Camp to Sia’s ‘Elastic Heart’ is one of my favourites:

Space

Quasars, Pulsars, galaxies, black holes, dark matter, nebulas - I will be forever intrigued by the peaceful emptyness, the violent chaos, the beauty and all the unknown of our universe. It is wonderful to feel small in the vastness of our universe - It stirs up a strong desire in me to know more, learn more, explore more and create more.

I think you’ll feel it too if you watch ‘Timelapse of the Future’ by Melodysheep:

Electronic Music

I think what inspires me most about elctronic music is the endless possibilities and unlimited creativity that the music tech and the nature of the medium allows. You can dream up anytthing and make it happen. Some of the producers I admire: Labrinth, Stromae, Lido, Flume.

Here is a playlist I made of the tunes that melt my face on a daily basis:

Classical Music

I was incredibly blessed to grow up in a country with a strong choral culture. I spent all of my childhood all the way up to University in choirs. Standing amidst 60 other voices while drenched in harmonies is nothing short of a spiritual experience. When inspiration runs empty I put on my favourite album Cloudburst by Eric Whitacre, Polyphony and Stephen Layton. Some of my other favourites: Olafur Arnalds, Max Richter, and the Interstellar Soundtrack.

Close your eyes and listen to O Magnum Mysterium - my favourite choral piece:

People & Places

In the end I believe our main purpose on this planet is relationship. Nothing is more important than getting to know, care for, and live for each other. There is nothing more inspiring to me than those who do these three things well! I had to sneak ‘Places’ into my number 5 as you can’t meet inspiring people without going places. I love travelling in order to meet new people and learn more about their lives, music, and art. Dear Oaxaca and Guatamala - you changed my life. Thank you.
