Hotel Mira, the Canadian alt-rock quartet led by the captivating Charlie Kerr, unleashes their highly anticipated studio album Pity Party on March 14th via Light Organ/604 Records. Following their well-received 2023 EP I Am Not Much Help and UK singles Waste Away and The View From The Barstool, the band continues to expand their musical footprint, drawing critical acclaim with their dynamic sound and emotive storytelling.
Currently touring the US with Rare Americans, Hotel Mira's live reputation is only getting stronger, having previously supported arena rock icons Our Lady Peace and Collective Soul, as well as performing at SXSW, The Great Escape, and Reeperbahn Festival in Germany. With two sold-out UK tours under their belt and a string of impressive support slots with the likes of Billy Talent, Fizzy Blood, and Frank Lero of My Chemical Romance, they’ve solidified themselves as one of Canada’s most beloved alt-rock acts.
The band's formation is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared musical vision. Charlie Kerr and Mike Noble, who met as teenagers at a local Battle of the Bands, later recruited guitarist Clark Grieve and drummer Cole George through Vancouver’s tight-knit music scene to complete the lineup. Drawing heavily on Kerr’s background as an actor and playwright, the band’s music is a sonic exploration of storytelling, with Kerr equating the act of creating music to the craft of performance and writing. It’s this theatricality that permeates every track on Pity Party, whether it’s through the band’s powerful instrumentation or Kerr’s mesmerising onstage presence.
Kerr’s live performance is nothing short of theatrical—combining the raw energy of Iggy Pop with the dramatic flair of an avant-garde performance artist. He captivates audiences with his hip-swaying melodies and lyrical precision, creating an intimate experience where each listener feels as though they are part of the narrative. Meanwhile, Grieve, Noble, and George craft a sweeping backdrop of sound, building an immersive atmosphere that mirrors the emotional depth of each song.
Pity Party is the perfect encapsulation of Hotel Mira’s evolution, where passion, drama, and rock music collide. From Kerr’s hauntingly personal lyrics to the band's robust, sweeping soundscapes, each track feels like a journey—one that pulls you into the heart of the band’s unique vision. Whether they’re performing at a festival or playing a small club, Hotel Mira is a band that leaves a lasting impression, and with Pity Party, their storytelling prowess reaches new heights. As Kerr also takes on a leading role in the upcoming feature film Shiver, it’s clear that his talents transcend music, making him a force to be reckoned with both on and off the stage. Keep an eye on this band—they're just getting started.
