Annabel Asher shares the dark warehouse feel of ‘SHUT ME UP’

NYC underground up-and-comer Annabel Asher has released her third single, SHUT ME UP, balancing an atmospheric nature with a fuzzy synth arrangement. The track steadily builds to a resounding climax, the harmonies slotted into verse melodies providing an angel on the shoulder, quickly defied by the exasperation of the chorus.

The unapologetic warehouse feel continues to grip your attention, fuzzy synths and pulsating quicks pushing the distant, dystopian but strangely sweet vocal performance into the darkness.

Annabel’s writing often speaks to the raw elements of romance, and this track is no different, it’s lustfully charged lyricism playing into the intense instrumental arrangement. She explains, “I wrote this song about that moment right before you know you're about to kiss someone; when you're a bundle of nerves and just cannot stop talking. This song, while sonically brazen, is exposing and vulnerable. I wrote this song to take back power in a situation where I felt like I had none, zooming in on everything going through my head and body at the moment I lost control. It also speaks to the eroticism and frustration of being involved with someone who you know has a certain power over you.

Produced by Finn Bennett, we brought the song to life through exhilarating synths, defiant drums and fierce vocals. We wanted to make something bold and provocative and coursing with electricity. I wanted to convey that blinding, masochistic desire that has made me feel/act insane.”

‘SHUT ME UP’ is the first single from Annabel’s debut EP BESTSELLER, set for release later this year. The artist first impacted the scene with singles ‘the Line’ and ‘555’, sharing the ugly truths of coming of age and unusual relationships. BESTSELLER is set to reveal a deeper layer of these desires and the tragic beauty within them.
