Brighton’s rising indie-rock stars, Bacci Pouch, return with their latest single, ‘Normal People’, an exhilarating, scuzzy anthem that’s both infectious and raw. Released on November 15th, the track marks the band's third single and cements their place in the UK indie scene as a band with boundless potential.
Drawing on the indie rock swagger of The Libertines and the unrelenting energy of Buzzcocks, ‘Normal People’ delivers a vibrant, chaotic soundscape that blends nostalgia with a deep well of emotion. The song is driven by an intricate bassline, buoyant fuzzy guitars, and boxy drums, all culminating in a vintage 70s vibe that feels as evocative as it is edgy. The infectious, catchy melodies in the lead vocals add an effortlessly cool, almost punk edge to a sound that’s rooted in indie-pop with a splash of alt-rock.
The track was recorded at the renowned Forum Recording Studios with acclaimed producer Erik Miles (Soft Play, Kate Nash, Heavy Jelly), and was later mastered by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, The K’s, The Courteeners). It has already become a crowd favourite at the band's electrifying live shows, where its pulsating bassline and reflective lyrics have connected deeply with audiences.
Vocalist and guitarist James Neighbour opens up about the inspiration behind the track: “‘Normal People’ describes the encounter of two people struggling with everyday life, feeling disconnected from society and not ‘normal.’ Through finding common ground, they realise that they need each other to live out a fantasy of normalcy. It’s a statement on feeling alien within the patterns of everyday life, but at its core, it's about finding that one special person who makes you feel understood."
With a growing reputation for their electric live performances, the band has headlined shows across Brighton and supported acts like The Dream Machine, The Skinner Brothers, and Aerial Salad. With notable radio play from platforms like Radio X, BBC Introducing, and Platform B, Bacci Pouch are undoubtedly a band to watch.
