Barton Hartshorn is back with a new single, the ever-delicate ‘Sister Bird’. Rooted in layers of rhythmic acoustic guitar, bouncing from phrase to phrase, the track features a heartfelt outpour from Barton, his vocals ringing out about the rhythms with a steady wisdom and an arresting presence. As the track builds around him, his celestial performance never wavers, embracing the driven drums and roaring electric licks, allowing himself to be absorbed into the atmospheric arrangement.
Barton explains how the story of the EP progresses, “The King has finished his speech, finished his ice-cream & stopped waving his spoon around. He needs to sleep it off. Let’s leave him there & walk along the sea front, pick a door that looks like home & walk in. There’s a voice in this quiet place, a woman’s voice. She’s saying something about better times. Think I’ll stay here for a while. Will you leave a light on for me?”
Steadily revealing his latest project, the ‘Everything…’ EP, Barton Hartshorn is seeing a continuance of the worldwide indie press acclaim he’s become accustomed to during his solo career. The English Village-named artist has released five albums since he branched out from his original band Dictafone. Performing across the world, each new listener is enchanted by his wistful, honest and enthralling songwriting.
