Just when you think Copper Lungs have settled into their stride, they pivot and remind us why they’re one of Scotland’s most exciting rising bands!
Off the back of a UK tour announcement and a prime support slot for Elliot Minor’s sold-out Edinburgh show, the Dundee-based four-piece is back in the spotlight with Brushed In Gold, an unexpected gem pulled from the sessions for their upcoming album Broken Beautiful, out May 16th.
What if I told you that Brushed In Gold nearly didn’t exist? According to songwriter Darren, this was the first track the band played together after reuniting in 2023. But after a few unsuccessful attempts to make it work, the song didn’t quite “click” and was shelved. That is until Copper Lungs decided to stop forcing it and started playing around. The pop-rock band is no stranger to reinvention, but with Brushed In Gold, they’ve tapped into something that feels genuinely new.
Inspired by Darren’s long drives to low-paying gigs, torn between chasing a dream and being present for his family, Brushed In Gold explores the realities of artistic ambition with undeniable catchiness, capturing a familiar grind many musicians face.
This track defies their heavier rock leanings of late, becoming one of the band’s personal favourites on the album. And it’s easy to see why! Brushed In Gold is a crisp slice of indie-pop with broad appeal that’s primed for radio.
With bright melodies and a polished arrangement, it wastes no time getting to the point—the chorus hits early and hits hard, instantly catchy without feeling overproduced. It’s the kind of song you’d catch on repeat during a late-night drive or in a summer playlist.
