Before his musical works began to take shape, David Billström, the lead songwriter of the newly formed band David & Goliat, had his sights set on becoming an artist, studying in England. It was during this time that David mysteriously received a leftover guitar, picking it up and steadily making his way into the world of pop, rock, folk and blues. In his own words, ”Besides music I’m also very interested in art, film and theater and for me it all blends together. You get different ideas and then you have a choice of how you want to express it – in music, film or maybe a painting.”
The Swedish songwriter now makes his return with the cheery new ray of sunshine ‘Nothing Comes From Nothing’. Built on the dynamic rhythms of a drum set and acoustic guitar, and littered with bright electric guitar melodies, David’s raw vocal performance speaks to worldly observations, sharing the wisdom he has come to terms with as he speaks on politics and social media. In direct contrast to the themes of deception and lies he laces, David performs with honesty and joyfulness, rooted in the self-confidence of his reflections.
The band shares, “Our latest single is called ’Nothing Comes From Nothing’ and is a reflection of the zeitgeist we live in now. It’s an upbeat indie pop/rock song with country influences and a positive vibe. In contrast to the music, the lyrics comment on the role of social media today and the negative effects it has when based on lies and deception. Debates in politics and media are mostly about smear campaigns, witch hunts and trying to "win" the other side at all costs, rather than trying to build consensus and come up with something constructive together.
The cover art is a portrait of Baron von Munchhausen, also known as the 'Liar Baron', who was notorious for his tall tales and lies. All with the aim of making himself look better in the eyes of others. We all have the potential to create something good, but if there is nothing but empty lies at the core, sooner or later it will fall apart.”
