Intricately crafting his unique alt-pop brand, Dom Quincey, a West London-born artist, started producing from his attic. Becoming known for rich dreamscapes that provide an emotive haze as he talks about love and coming of age, Dom's comforting nostalgia has become home to a growing fanbase.
With his latest single ‘Before My Eyes’, Dom starts with an ethereal and unsettled atmosphere. Saturated electric melodies play against a wistful piano, with Dom’s vocal introduction being one of hurt and confusion. As his words become more confident, swirling instrumentation begins to sway around him before the track eventually drops into an ethereal but rhythmic new section. Continuing to expand, the tracks burst into a huge wall of sound, Dom’s vocals receiving a significant dose of distortion as the instrumentation roars with passion, a truly emotive single.
“‘Before My Eyes’ is essentially a song about the yearning that comes in the wake of losing a loved one very suddenly. I started working on ideas for the song a couple of years ago, but it didn’t find its true meaning until after I experienced a traumatic loss. It’s the most vulnerable song I have put out.”
Dom continues, “This track feels different for me as it reflects an entirely raw expression of myself. Sonically, I wanted the song to reflect a journey of emotions. The track starts in a fragile place with minimal production in the verse and eventually builds to a crescendo of complex feelings in the climax. I want people to use the song as an outlet for their interpretation of loss. It can be just as much about the loss of romantic love as it can be about grief.”
