Dutch alternative-electronic solo artist Heijmat unveils his latest sonic masterpiece, Echoes of Solace, a four-track EP that continues to push the boundaries between ambient, techno, and downtempo music.
With a distinctive style that blends lush analogue synths, delicate piano, intricate electronic drums, and elegant arpeggiators, Heijmat crafts deeply evocative soundscapes. Collaborating with vocalists and producers across the EP (LudoWic on 'Horison', Naber on 'Severance' and vocalist KW Toering on 'Don't Run Away'), the result is a release that is simultaneously emotional, experimental, and cinematic whilst retaining the rich synthesis and sampling of previous releases.
Comparable to the work of Jon Hopkins and Bonobo, the Ep is an exciting showcase of where Heijmat is headed musically. Echoes of Solace represents a shift towards a more melancholic, introspective sound, veering away from the dancefloor while maintaining an immersive intensity.
The artwork for the EP adds an extra layer of depth and intimacy, designed by Heijmat’s wife and featuring a polaroid taken by their eldest daughter alongside a painting by Heijmat’s father-in-law.
Reflecting on the release, Heijmat shares: “2024 has been quite turbulent on a personal level, and I think that’s reflected in the music on this second EP. It’s quite dark at times, but always with hope going through, and I must say I’m really happy with what came out of that musically. I think the music is both intense and soothing, but most of all emotionally charged and authentic. It’s also a bit more organic than my previous work, and I feel that’s a direction I want to explore more in the future.”
Behind the moniker of Heijmat is acclaimed multi-platinum award-winning mixing engineer Huub Reijnders, who has built an impressive career working with renowned artists such as Oscar and the Wolf, The Subs, Jack Parow, Kraak & Smaak, and Merol. With Echoes of Solace, Heijmat continues to carve out a distinct and deeply personal space in the alternative-electronic music landscape, proving his ability to blend technical expertise with raw emotion.
