The London-based hyperpop artist has also announced his debut EP, 'Panic Club', set for release later this year.
London-based hyper pop artist forevrboy returns today to share the video for his new single, “Lights Out!”, and announces the release date of his debut EP Panic Club!, out May 1st.
“It’s an alternative pop banger with a catchy impactful hook,” he says. “The song bridges genres and explores themes of young love being exposed to clubs and nightlife for the first time, and all the emotions and experiences that come with it.”
Moving to London in his teenage years to pursue music, forevrboy has always sought adventure and new experiences. Meeting artists and closely collaborating with similar-minded individuals like Gweilo Ghost and WORRYWORR as well as May Hemp from overseas, forevrboy began to shape a vision for stardom.
Fascinated by the constant evolution of genres in the underground, and the idea of creating his own lane in the scene by combining modern pop sounds and styles with cutting edge guitar-driven production and aesthetics, forevrboy came into his own in 2020 with the release of his catchy alt-pop single 'Bandages'. This was a breakthrough as it landed him on, what was then, a relatively unknown Spotify editorial playlist called hyperpop. As that newfound genre started to become more and more established, the playlist gained mainstream attention which added momentum to forevrboy’s unique sound landing his follow-up single ‘Love Addict’ (ft Gweilo Ghost) on consecutive editorials such as Fresh Finds and XYZ. Combining inspiration from his childhood love of rock and roll, metal, and pop-punk with his love for pop music, trap, and futuristic production, forevrboy began to shape an interesting new lane in the alt-pop scene.
The sound and lyrics of his debut EP Panic Club! encompass all of forevrboy’s inspiration and emotional experiences to date, combining aesthetics of futuristic synth production, punk rock, trap, and most importantly glitzy hook-driven pop. “I want to take people to a new place they haven't experienced before”, says forevrboy. “I want people to experience the excitement I feel when I hear something poppy and catchy but also containing elements of something totally new.” Hence the title, Panic Club! explores themes of mental health that close to forevrboy’s heart, exploring the heavy toll of anxiety and the pressure of independence transitioning from a teenager to a young adult has on oneself.
