Already tagged as an artist set for greatness despite being just twenty years old, Gabriella Bongo’s career comes jewelled with an array of impressive achievements, a long way past her MTV inspirations. Gabriella has spent time as part of Apple’s Creative Studio London programme, appeared on BBC News and Reprezent Radio and worked on projects or Universal Production Music. Perhaps the biggest testament to her arrangement talent, Gabriella has also turned her drum and bass anthems into a memorable performance at the Royal Albert Hall with a 96-piece orchestra.
After teasers sent subtle ripples through the tastemaker world, Gabriella Bongo has now released her debut EP, the rich drum and bass of Unsettled Rhythms. With a range of features from vocal titan Liam Bailey to newcomer Shayla Marie, it’s the clean production style and cinematic viewpoint Gabriella takes that drives these tracks skyward.
The wobbling bass lines, the pumping kick and snare rhythms, the strings holding you closer, the synths leaving you distant, each element comes together to reflect a colossal energy larger than each high-octane element alone. From the more shuffling sounds of ‘Still Hear Your Voice’ to the bass-driven power of ‘Do What You Want’, Gabriella shows signs of a future icon from her debut.
Gabriella shares a comment on the new single, “Liam Bailey actually suggested I make a drum and bass EP, and later on, my manager suggested the same thing. I also thought it would be a good idea to have a solid body of work showcasing my current sound. A body of work that I executed properly, from the writing to recording and engineering to the photography and marketing. It’s been a great learning experience.”
