Singer-songwriter, Gecko, widely praised for his quirky creative vision, is back with his most ambitious and most imaginative project yet. After discovering the solo work of Randy Newman as a teenager, Gecko’s musical journey was changed forever, and was inspired to create songs from his own perspective and write music channelling the view of a character real or fictional. Gecko’s witty lyrics have reached millions across social media, however his live performances never disappoint and he has performed around the globe including at Glastonbury and Latitude.
The ten-track album, created alongside Mercury-nominated engineer Shuta Shinoda, is whimsical and charming. Featuring anecdotal tracks such as “The Dawn Chorus” where the lyrics imagine what birds are really singing about in the morning. However the album also tackles more emotional topics, “Lost Boys” follows Gecko’s take on a true story of boys who became stranded on a desert island. Gecko’s lyrical variety cements him as a true storyteller, weaving tales that both entertain and capture listeners.
Discussing a few of the tracks featured on the “The Big Picture”, Gecko dives in “‘Geology’ and ‘Take a Look Around’ feel like the foundations that the rest of the album stands on. These are testing, trying times we’re living through and we have access to everything all at once. These songs are my attempt to find some solace and comfort in the enormity and unlikeliness that has led us to the life that we now hold. And however messy this world is, that life we carry is unbelievably special and that fact is unbelievably easy to forget.”
