Akashic Gods, a punk rock artist, is reimagining her sound and approach after transitioning from dance music to punk rock. Her first single, "Gods & Machines," aims to return to her origins and create authentic songs, ensuring the audience enjoys all elements.
We sat down with Akashic Gods to discuss her music and much more. Here is what she had to say:
Thank you for sitting down and talking to FLEX. Can you tell us a bit about how you got into music?
From a young age, Music has always been my number one passion, and as a former fashion model having secured the role as a backing singer for Secret Life (covered Stevie Wonder’s hit ‘As Always’) I toured the world with them gaining valuable live shows experience, then in another life as a club promoter, with my music management as a dance artist which led to several club dance hit’s and finally my own solo project as an independent Alternative Indie Punk artist.
Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?
My biggest music influences are the Killers, The Cure, David Bowie, De Wayne and Grace Jones, Lenny Kravitz, and Nina Hagen.
Congratulations on your brand-new song 'Gods & Machines' - what inspired this particular track?
After going through a personal traumatic experience and I emerged from it stronger and on a positive note, by utilising my faith, it was the inverted observation of my experience which triggered as a catalyst, an eye-opening dawn of self-realisation whereby I decided to stay true to myself, face my fears and deal with life’s challenges head-on, hence, I decided to write full songs with meaning to enlighten and empower the listener, rather than just writing hooks for dance music, hence I wrote a song called ‘Orbit To Landfall’ which is the genesis of the 'GODS & MACHINES' single.
How do you channel personal experiences into your songwriting, and what do you hope listeners gain from connecting with your music?
Through a hell of a lot of soul-searching. I see myself as a songwriter using my personal experiences to create mini-song-documentaries and turning my experiences into stories whereby Realism pervades in my lyricism and has references to my philosophical interpretation of life through my real-life experience storytelling and I hope it will impact the listener, so they can take away messages of hope, empowerment, endurance and enlightenment.
Each aspect of music – writing, recording, practising, and playing live – offers something different. Can you share a particularly meaningful moment from each?
Writing – The Loneliness/Isolation – as a writer I have learnt to be comfortable being alone for extended long periods of time with no social life and having to learn willpower by adopting a tunnel vision warning off distractions as it’s all head down and research time in the prep to writing a song. Recording – Learning the art of self-discipline during the recording studio sessions and endurance as during recording you have to know what it is that you want in the sound, vocal takes and then listening back to the same song a thousand times over, which can be tedious but in the end very rewarding. Teamwork is essential when working with a producer. Practising – Learning to make Health and fitness a priority. As I learnt, ‘What you put in is what you get out’ regarding the performance be it live or studio generally speaking. This has been my experience during the 3 years it has taken to record the album.
Is there a song in your repertoire that holds a particularly deep personal meaning for you? Can you share the story or inspiration behind it?
Orphans of Wisdom – The Inspiration behind it is that it reflects on the state of humanity and the present world today, whereby I reflect my reality through a prism whilst storytelling this song.
What are your goals for the future with your music?
To start performing live gigs with session musicians in order to introduce my concept album (messages) to listeners in an attempt to bring about a higher level of consciousness to mankind for the greater good of humanity!
What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your music?
I also tend to write songs from the perspective of leaving the message of the song open-ended as each listener’s view is subjective. It will allow them to take whatever they want to take from my music, but it will also allow individuals to hopefully feel empowered, strengthened; enlightened and fearless in order to own their own truth.
To wrap things up, is there anything else you'd like to share with our readers?
As humans, we spend so much time living outside of ourselves and too little time looking within ourselves, hence we forget the power we all hold within each of us to make anything we dream of manifest into reality through Mind power, Self- believe, Faith, fearlessness, discipline and above all as humans, we should learn to Love, be kind and support each other more to make this world a better place.
