INTERVIEW: CHAYNE

jimt

Chayne has truly announced herself to the world with infectious pop-punk single 'Number One'. Written as a callout to influencer culture and her wise outlook on the modern day society that we now all live in, this 17 year-old already seems to have the world at her feet. With much more to come from Chayne, she has already proven that she is looking to make an immediate impact with her own take on modernised pop, and we love it.

We sat down with Chayne to learn all about the debut single, what's ahead for this truly exciting artist and much, much more, exclusively for FLEX!

Hey Chayne, welcome to FLEX. Sum up your debut single for us in three words!

Hello FLEX!! Three words?

Daddy!! Done it!!

What is ‘Number One’ about?

“Number One” is just me venting at the TikTok/Insta culture that has become so central to young people. It’s totally fake and seems to offer a quick and easy way out of boring normality. But, in fact, it’s self obsessed, offers nothing and ultimately makes people feel they’re worthless. It’s written from the POV of someone whose only goal in life is to be an influencer. Despite all the crap that is happening.

What inspired you to start writing and recording music at such a young age?

My family are all into music, one brother is a drummer (took me to Rammstein last week!) the other a pianist, my dad was in a band etc.  I was force fed a lot great (and terrible!) music through my childhood and I just found I could come up with simple little tunes! Plus, most modern music is terrible and I thought I could do better...:rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

Who are the biggest inspirations?

I’m a 90's girl stuck in 2024, I guess, because of what my parents listened to. So, Babes In Toyland, Garbage, Nirvana, Cardigans, Prodigy, Pixies, MBV. But not exclusively. I love Sleaford Mods, ABBA, Bully, LCD Soundsystem, Billie, T Rex, Massive Attack....and Elvis too!! All the good stuff. Ha ha!!

What was the recording and writing process like for ‘Number One’?

I had a lot of help from my producer, and basically we built the track together from a riff of his. He has a small studio at his house which we used. Kinda basic, but it did the job. Very hot and sweaty.

How does it feel to have your debut single out in the world?

Amazing... and daunting. There’s so much music, (and so many ways to hear it) in the world that it’s ridiculous to expect to be noticed and listened to. So a little attention means a lot!!!

What’s in your store for Chayne for the rest of 2024?

We have 20 tracks recorded, so you better get used to me, I’m in for the long haul, ha ha! Next up is a song called “Kick Me In The Heart” which will be out in August. Then we release a song every 6 weeks or so until we conquer the world :japanese_ogre: xxxx
