Cloud House have been making waves in the UK music scene since, and 2024 has been their biggest year yet. With a sold-out UK tour, national radio support, and a record-breaking three-time feature as BBC Scotland’s Track of the Week, the Glasgow-based band is on the rise.
Their latest single, ‘Golden Hour’, is a bold step forward. It combines massive indie rock energy and modern, radio-ready production with heartfelt lyrics about grief, anxiety, and searching for our place in a world that feels overwhelming. This new release also features an exclusive acoustic B-side titled "Loved By You," which happens to be the first song Cloud House ever wrote back in 2019.
We caught up with lead singer Conor to chat about their journey so far.
1. What’s been your biggest “we’ve made it” moment so far?
I’m not sure we’ll ever feel as if we’ve made it! But selling out King Tut’s to release the ‘Still Here’ EP felt like a real landmark moment, as did selling out two nights in a row in McChuills in 2024.
2. ‘Golden Hour’ cranks up the rock. Was that intentional or just where the music took you?
We didn’t go into the studio with any preconceptions or deliberately wanting to lean more into rock, it just felt very natural. We kinda just turned up the distortion until we were told to calm down!
3. Your songs hit deep. What’s the hardest lyric you’ve ever written?
All of our songs are very personal and reflective. Different songs might hit deep on different days depending on the mood - lots of our songs are about dealing with grief, but always with a positive slant. ‘Photographs’ and ‘Set You Free’ are pretty unashamedly personal songs.
‘Photographs are scattered on my wall / reminds me of your beauty every time / just memories that I can never hold / she said fuck them if they try to bring me down’
Set You Free opens with ‘You’d never felt so alone, but there were hundreds of people watching you drive home’ which we think hits a lot harder when you know the back story.
4. Revisiting ‘Loved By You’ after all these years—nostalgic or nerve-wracking?
Probably more nostalgic! We had more time than we thought in the studio and decided to just lay it down, not thinking at the time we’d release it. We’re happy it exists for people to listen to now in some way!
5. You’re known for putting on an electric live show. What’s one song in your setlist that always gets the crowd going?
‘Don’t Wanna Talk’ is our fastest tune and has the easiest lyrics to get everyone joining in with, always a stormer live! ‘Somebody New’ is a bit of a crowd favourite too.
6. If Cloud House had a statement, what would it be?
Banging guitar-based tunes with hard hitting lyrics!
