Thank you for sitting down and talking to FLEX. Can you tell us a bit about how you got into music?
I don't really remember not being very interested in music. I suppose the earliest memories involved burning and buying a lot of CDs. Immediately being curious about playing and making music.
Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?
The influences I have often change from month to month but I would say some constant influences include the likes of Animal Collective, Burial, Grouper & Deerhunter.
How do you channel personal experiences into your songwriting, and what do you hope listeners gain from connecting with your music?
I don't intend to channel anything into my process, it just happens the way it does. I just let what I'm feeling come out for me at that moment. I do hope that listeners can tap into some of the emotions I was feeling during the times I put together the record.
Is there a song in your repertoire that holds a particularly deep personal meaning for you? Can you share the story or inspiration behind it?
The opening track Landfill has a particular resonance for me. It was and is a mantra to avoid falling too deep into bad feelings.
What are your goals for the future with your music?
I'll get working on the next Sour Blood music next year. No idea what direction it will go but I'm curious to see what way it will lead me.
To wrap things up, is there anything else you'd like to share with our readers?
Always do everything you can to oppose inequality, racism, hatred and apartheid in the world. BDS.
