Jay Moussa-Mann returns with her signature brand of feel-good pop as she releases her third single of the year, ‘Tangled’. Building upon the success of her last release ‘Ghosts’ - which amassed over one hundred thousand plays on Instagram Reels - she is back as she asserts herself as one of the most exciting young talents in pop music.
Starting with a retrospective glimmer, the track starts telling the tale of an all-consuming summertime romance, complete with slick hooks and layered guitars. The chorus just pours out of the speakers, it’s clear Moussa-Mann has an innate knack for crafting memorable hooks and anthemic sections. Finally, the Taylor Swift-esque bridge raises the single to a new level and provides the sonic foundations for ‘Tangled’s outro to raise the bar one final step, leaving a lasting impression.
The track was forged by Moussa-Mann as she set out to encapsulate the warm memories of her Turkish childhood. Inspired by a honeymoon stay in the utopia of Akyaka, Turkey, she set about - guitar in hand - to get the right feel for a song she had penned some years prior. Speaking about the creative process behind the release, Jay explains: “I’ve never been super confident on guitar, especially electric but I saw this as a challenge and so I kept playing around with Guitar Rig 6 and my Squier Stratocaster until I had these very simple riffs layered up and suddenly, it sounded like what I was hearing in my head. It sounded like the Mediterranean.”
