The self-taught artist Joy Mumford has been building a career in music through her natural ability to create charming melodies and relatable lyrics. Her successes include performances at Barn On The Farm, Rock City, Dot to Dot and Splendour. She also grows her following through a YouTube channel in which she posts lifestyle content, original music and covers.
Joy Mumford’s latest offering is new single ‘Spilt Milk’. Effortlessly bright, summery and optimistic, it’s sure to get you feeling good. Joy’s vocal performance is boundlessly pretty, it’s gently vibrant, this being accented with vocal harmonies and choir-like layers that back up the main melody. A instrumental made up of laid-back drums, and an interesting chord stab pairing of electric guitars and orchestral strings, come together to support this performance, alongside other twinkly elements that put a smile on your face.
On new single, Joy shares “I wrote and produced Spilt Milk during a challenging time in my life when I was learning to make peace with the fact that it’s okay to let go of things, people and places that drain me, rather than trying to fix or control everything. I was trying to liberate myself from a difficult situation, whilst simultaneously learning to sit and accept the uncomfortable emotions I was feeling by doing so. I have a tendency to rush out of feeling difficult emotions, and so making music has always been my way of connecting back to myself, and processing the great and not-so-great things happening around me. No matter how difficult it can be, I like to believe that when we let go of certain things, it’s to make room for something better and brighter ahead - and I really wanted Spilt Milk to reflect that!”
