Los Angeles based composer, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist Julian Scherle has had an expansive career that goes from punk bands to film composition. His credits include ‘Luden’, ‘Mr. Robot,’ ‘American Horror Story,’ ‘American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson’ and many more. His diverse style has been shown across multiple monikers over the years, but he now finds his voice under his own name, noting “All my music I’ve worked on has been instrumental for the past 20 years, so this is the first time using my most personal instrument - my own voice - since I’d played in a punk band in my teens.” It’s exciting to watch for such an acclaimed artist, and ‘Truth Of Heart’ shows this new path to be a fruitful one.
Julian Scherle brings all his past experiences and injects them into his new single ‘Truth Of Heart’. A spacious piano line is simultaneously comforting and haunting, with the instrumentation slowly building into glittery synth arpeggios, ethereal pads and a pumping bass line. Percussion is used to help infuse the electricity of the track, with an almost Lo-Fi aesthetic taking hold of the drums. Through these elements Julian expertly crafts a cinematic soundscape and momentous feeling for his gentle, wise and subtly powerful vocals to shine through, adding in harmonies to certain lines to make them even more poignant.
Julian explains, “At its core, the song is a love song for someone who is very close to my heart. I was going through some quite difficult personal challenges over the past year, which forced me to open my eyes and rethink what human connection and love really means to me. Along the way, I asked myself questions like, ‘How do traumas, anxieties, and societal norms shape the way we connect with other people?’ and, ‘Is this even compatible with human nature? Are we constructing relationships that are impossible to live up to our expectations? Are we setting ourselves up for guaranteed failure?’
Love means to nurture both one's own and another person’s spiritual growth. In the presence of dependency, control, anxiety and the wish for dominance, real love can’t exist.”
