Everyone remembers exactly what happened in 2020, and to be honest, we aren't too keen on reliving the P-word any time soon, but for Indian artist Kamakshi Khanna, she was able to launch her 'Green Room Sessions' to bring a much-needed slice of joy to our lives during that time. And while the years since have been extremely productive for her, she is harking back to that lonely time for inspiration behind her latest EP 'Heartbreak 2020', a concept release about the pitfalls of young love.
With each track its own individual narrative, influnced by the tricky times dating had on her during her 20s, 'Heartbreak 2020' sees her effortlessly combine progressive pop production with a tender approach to songwriting. Taking what she is known for with bright and lofty soundscapes, and blending them into some brilliantly impactful lyrics at every turn has given this new EP a wildly accessible direction. With cuts like 'Love Is Not A Fucking Game' standing as a true anthem within the tracklist, she has returned to us with some of her most wonderfully passionate delights here.
It may have been born out of some truly unpleasant times in her life, but Kamakshi Khanna is shining bright with every chord here. Offering up some beautifully warm and inviting moments as it plays, 'Heartbreak 2020' will go down as one of her more seminal releases to date.
