For LUX the band, their latest single 'Infinite Mind' comes for the original release in a little while, following their 2022 album 'Gravity' and 2024 live session EP 'Before Night Falls'. The group returns with a bang, crafting a track that integrates vivid songwriting with easy-going listenability. The entrancing melodies pass through the vocals, and the guitars cut through with sleek licks and gently pushing rhythms. The bass and drums are consistent in their grooves, adding a subtle flair to the rhythm section alongside the more prominent elements. Evolving the storyline with the verses, and unleashing exuberance in the choruses, the band even manage to put forward a fierce guitar solo that feels totally at home within the more reflective overall sound.
“‘Infinite Mind’ was recorded on tape,” LUX explains, “mixed and mastered as almost all of our songs have been, at Studio Black Box, France with the base tracks all played live. ‘Infinite Mind’ is a straightforward, up-tempo tune with 4 chords in a minor key straight-up rock song with a memorable gimmick and a Laforge trademark solo. But if the chorus is intentionally simple (all the better for those who wish to sing along!) the verses are woven with small fantastical details that take us for a walk through the writer’s infinite mind.
The lyrics seek to capture a moment, to suspend time long enough to look closely at a state of mind where beauty and love reside next to life’s small frustrations as we count down the hours of the day, every day. Contemplating the sentiment of being “on the outside, looking in”. The song ends with the hopeful determination, ‘retreat, toss out the garbage and redefine’. A song for springtime renewal for our infinite mind.”
Founded by Angela Randall and Sylvain Laforge, LUX the band started with the goal of crafting a unique sound. Now joined on stage and in the studio by Julien Boisseau and Amaury Blanchard, the band has found that sound, and named it ‘Velvet Rock’. Debuting in 2017 with the album ‘Super 8’, following it with ‘Gravity’ a few years later, the band’s latest major release saw them unveil EP ‘Before Night Falls - The Black Box Sessions’, filled with raw live recordings of both their original music and covers, the latter a rarity for the group.
