Indie-pop rising star Maddie Regent has unveiled 'Miss Virgo', the final pre-release single from her eagerly-awaited debut album 'On the phone with my mom', set for release on May 16.
'Miss Virgo' is a standout—sonically expansive and emotionally raw. Swirling in ethereal production and cinematic textures, the track balances haunting vulnerability with delicate strength. Regent’s voice floats over layered synths and dreamy rhythms, but it’s the song’s lyrical honesty that leaves a lasting impression.
One of the most personal songs on the album, 'Miss Virgo' reflects on a pivotal chapter in Regent’s life—her experience in a recovery centre at age 17, where she sought treatment for an eating disorder. What begins as a story of isolation and pain evolves into something unexpected: a tribute to the sisterhood she found during that time.
“At first, I just wanted to go home, but I couldn’t,” Regent shares. “So for a while, my world became that little cabin in the woods, and my family became this group of fiercely strong girls from every walk of life. We bonded over our mutual distrust of the nurses, our collective crush on the one male specialist, crocheting, and watching Pretty Little Liars. Although every day I was there I didn’t want to be there, I really do have fond memories from that place, mostly because of the people I met.”
