Mali Hâf returns with her first single of the year, ‘Esgusodion’, her first release since 2023’s ardent EP ‘Jig-so’. Pushing the boundaries of pop music with her charged, Celtic delivery and powerful electronica beats, Hâf shows no signs of slowing down as she asserts herself as one of the most exciting young forces in the game.
The track bursts out of the speakers right from the outset. Its intoxicating rhythms and eccentric percussions give the single a new lease of life and provide Hâf with a unique backdrop to deliver her captivating melodies and quick-catchy vocal hooks. The shimmering synthesizers provide a celestial edge to ‘Esgusdion’ which adds to the slick production style and her bold approach to music making. Inspired by the likes of Kate Bush, her Welsh roots and her unrelenting passion for genre-defying music, she has already turned thousands of industry heads with her infectious enthusiasm - including a compelling performance at Huw Stephens’ BBC Radio 6 Launch Show.
Translating to ‘excuses’, the single is written about the unethical nature of excuses and how they are exploited by everyone from politicians, to world leaders and even loved ones closest to us. Speaking about the release, Hâf explains “[excuses] are undeniably everywhere in life, but if you can rise above them and throw them away for a while, and be true to your inner courage, then freedom and peace can follow”.
