New Zealand-born MAREYA is back with her seminal brand of blood-pumping dance-pop as she teams up with YOUNIQUE and Keidan Morley on her latest single ‘Need You Now’. Her first release of the year, the track is set to take the dance-pop world by storm after topping the Dance iTunes charts in Brazil and landing a top-five position in Australia.
Kicking off with an enticing guitar riff, it's not long before the track bursts into life with its pounding bass drum and MAREYA’s ethereal vocal delivery. The track may appear to simply be another dance-pop track - of which it is a great one - but after just a handful of listens it's clear that it is much more interesting than that. Everything from Keidan Morley’s sensational sax parts, all the way down to YOUNIQUE’s emphatic production gives this record an exciting, groove-laden spin.
The track’s lyrics deal with individual sensitivity as MAREYA discusses the messages of self-discovery and determination embedded within the record, “The work is quite unique with the lyrics exposing a personal vulnerability insofar as they seek to return to a deeper sense of self after a depressive episode caused a disconnect with that”.
Producer YOUNIQUE also commented on the track and how the collaborating artists forged something that feels as representative as it does exciting, “it was brilliant to be able to represent my own sound on this track, alongside my partner and to creatively direct the whole, super fun process to achieve what is now ‘our’ own sound.”
