Matilda Bond is a Brighton jazz collective that is gaining impressive traction through their uniquely soulful blend of jazz, hip-hop, R&B. They bring nuance and beauty to their music, gently leading you into the expansive sonic space through lush and colourful music that captivates and bewitches you. Since 2019, they have shown the ability to bring jazz into the modern era, pushing the genre whilst maintaining a blissful disposition.
Their latest release is EP ‘Home For 24 Hours’, a project showcasing previously releases alongside a new single ‘I’ll Wait’. Effortlessly charming, distinct drum rhythms, mellow keys, flowing horn patterns, angelic guitars and groovy bass all come together to lay a luscious bed of sweetness. The vocals are inviting and appealing, heavenly harmonies grace your ears as the track floats through its runtime. You find yourself being lost completely in the music, transcending yourself, uplifted by the entangled tones from each perfected harmony and melody.
On the new release, Matilda explains, “This EP is an invitation into my ‘Home For 24 Hours’. So many of the emotions I have experienced over the last year have been condensed into these 21 minutes. ‘Home For 24 Hours’ depicts loss, love, hopelessness, desire, worry and warmth. Every song has been a means to reach out to loved ones (my friends, my family, my partner, music or myself) with words that aren’t always easy to say. The old family photographs that have translated into cover arts make this EP all the more close to home for me.
Stepping into any person’s ‘Home For 24 Hours’ would give you a huge insight into their current state, their wants, worries or woes and I wanted to explore that notion throughout this EP. How does it look to live in my ‘Home For 24 Hours’? It doesn’t always make for the most cohesive experience, this emotional roller coaster that we have created, but it feels like a true expression of my recent self.”
With their sound reaching a truly individual status, Matilda Bond are set to fly to the top of the industry, increasing their notability alongside other in the ever-growing UK Jazz scene.
