The latest release from R&B up-and-comer Mercy’s Cartel is the utterly gorgeous soundscapes of the new single ‘HORIZON’. The track balances a mellow and tranquil feeling with an anthemic soundscape. Drenching the atmosphere with vast synth design, Mercy creates an idyllic backdrop, pairing it with huge bass lines and blasting drums that crash through the arrangement. Mercy’s vocals are sultry and alluring, further decorating the music with angelic choirs of harmony and a lead vocal that swirls through infectious melodies.
Mercy explains, “I wrote this record after experiencing deep concern for a troubled guy I was seeing after a sudden period of “ghosting” when I lived in Bristol. It turns out he was literally in London in crack houses, shooting up heroin and dealing with demons that had nothing to do with me.
‘HORIZON’ is my ode to the nostalgic pull of the 80's synth-wave era with a poignant narrative of love, substance abuse, and the intoxicating escapism found in the city. The lyrics tell a story of forlorn love and self-destruction, exploring the dark allure of substance abuse as a coping mechanism.”
Currently, Mercy is 1 of 2 black recipients of Abbey Road Studio’s scholarship in Music Production and Audio Engineering and is working in their London studio on the engineering team. Aside from this incredible industry presence, the artist has also seen her notability through appearances across esteemed tastemaker radio and publications. Acclaimed performances and high-energy stage productions wrap up Mercy’s Cartel as an artist to be reckoned with in 2024.
