Middle Name John has released his trippy debut album ‘Obviously Confidential’, a project that sees the anonymous observer weave his way through witty lyricism that details the overwhelming doomsday feeling facing humanity daily. Vocally, Middle Name John balances natural and electronic edits to his vocals, able to take himself off-kilter and not afraid to let the computer process his vocals into another realm
The experimental poetry is laced with distorted punch, with Middle Name John, bending genres until they snap through inconceivable rhythms, punk attitudes and an absurd grit. What the dystopian atmosphere leads the listener into is a vast world of difficult truths and uncomfortable introspection. A very unique project.
Middle Name John speaks on the concepts at play, “There are a few common themes and ideas running throughout the album. Uncertainty is surely one of them. Another would be that it’s okay to reject divisive ideas fed to us by authoritative figures and if that turns people off, that’s okay. Say hello to friends and cherish the people who push you forward when you feel too slow (you aren’t too slow). Everything does feel different, but while the world may be cruel…don’t let it make you mean.”
An enigmatic artist with a penchant for experimental blends of post-punk, rock, and electronic music, Middle Name John’s recent debut has seen the artist craft thought-provoking into an entirely new format. As an active participant in the local music scene and advocate for social justice, Middle Name John's music serves as a platform for unity and reconstruction.
'Obviously Confidential' is a collaborative effort released through Slowfoot Records and Juicy Records.
