Mortal Prophets, the brainchild of New York-based artist and producer John Beckmann, has been one of the more expansive that we have come across in recent times. Creating these brilliantly immersive releases that look to span both genre and direction every time, he has earned a powerful reputation for unpredictability and flair when it comes to his next ventures. And after the bustling response to his previous collection 'Brian Eno In Heaven', he returns with his Germanic EP 'Meine Liebe'.
Inspired by the sprawling infleunce Germany has had over popular music from the last century, his newest EP stands as one of his most ambitious to date. Going back to the pre-war sounds of the nation and combining with the electronic innovation they produced during the 1970s, 'Meine Liebe' has this wonderfully adventurous feel to it. Conjuring some wildly imaginative ideas that all feel so vivid as they play, Mortal Prophets is once again thinking so far ahead of almost anything else doing the rounds right now.
While plenty has already been said about his progressive endeavours lately, Beckmann is in one of his most creative guises to date here. Creating something entirely new out of familiar tones and textures has become his great skill in recent years, something we get to hear plenty of on 'Meine Liebe'.
