New Wave Duo The Heroic Enthusiasts Release Reimagining Of 80's Classic 'Tears Run Rings'

New York's dynamic New Wave duo, The Heroic Enthusiasts, have unveiled their latest single, "Tears Run Rings," in collaboration with legendary producer Stephen Hague (known for his work with Pet Shop Boys, New Order, and Blur) via Meridian/ECR Music Group.

"Tears Run Rings" is an intriguing reimagining of Marc Almond's 1988 hit, bringing fresh life to a classic. Guitarist Thomas Ferrara recounts their inspiration drawn from Almond's work, describing it as a "magical awakening" that introduced them to a world of profound lyrics, intricate instrumentation, and innovative production. The duo's roots in the music of Almond and Soft Cell run deep, making the opportunity to cover one of their tracks an irresistible prospect. They ultimately chose "Tears Run Rings," a song that beautifully aligns with The Heroic Enthusiasts' penchant for love songs with a dark and political edge, as lead singer James Tabbi explains.

Collaborating with Stephen Hague on this project took The Heroic Enthusiasts' well-established musical partnership to new heights. The goal was to pay homage to the original while infusing it with The Heroic Enthusiasts' distinctive New Wave and synth-pop sound. The result is a lush soundscape characterized by textured synth lines and propulsive drum beats that make the song their own while honoring the spirit of the original.

Hague, who produced the duo's previous two EPs, found the experience of working with The Heroic Enthusiasts refreshing. He noted that their music stood out for its songcraft and musicality, setting it apart from the typical beats-with-hooks compositions that often cross his desk.

Having previously reimagined Pet Shop Boys' "It's A Sin," a chart-topping hit that Hague originally produced and mixed in 1987, The Heroic Enthusiasts have demonstrated their ability to breathe new life into classic tracks while maintaining their emotionally charged New Wave and synth-pop essence.

With "Tears Run Rings," The Heroic Enthusiasts continue their mission of delivering compelling, evocative music to listeners around the world, firmly establishing their place in the New Wave revival.
