Paolo Ruiu shares old-school celebration in new EP ‘Last Out’

Paolo Ruiu's most recent EP 'Last Out' is a glimmering, upbeat, indie music masterclass, the artist bringing together a clear love for those that have come before with subtle but palatable artistic changes. The ethereal guitar chords but deeply settled and forward-moving balance perfectly, bringing listeners into a soundscape that seems to fall around them as it charges ahead.

In the tracks where Paolo wants to lean into these guitars, they flourish to an incredibly beautiful place. In others, he dives headfirst into emotional acoustic moments or intricate synth design. The glamorous electronica is equally energising, but in a new more hopeful manner.

Paolo adds, ”The EP reflects a variety of themes, for which I wanted to explore the darker edges, using heavy saturation, multiple distortions and echoes, and pushing further than previously with the detuning of synths and guitars”

A second-generation Sardinian-Brit, Paolo Ruiu was raised in the suburbs of South London, from which he emerged as one-half of Young Romance. Once he embarked on a solo journey, after a cancelled tour, Paolo invested in his personal musical desires, breaking new boundaries in his debut EP and this subsequent project. A celebration of all that is Lo-fi Indie, 70’s Psychedelia, 80's New Wave and echoey vocals, this is not a project to be missed.
