- Congratulations on the release of your new single, "Tidal Wave"! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind this song and what it means to you personally?
I've been spending a lot of time in Europe recently and traveling in Spain to record and play music there. Tidal Wave was inspired by the travel experiences there, so I wanted to write a simple song that expressed my feelings and experience there traveling to beautiful beaches, horseback riding, hiking, etc. The response to my music there has been overwhelming in a short amount of time. - "Tidal Wave" explores the rollercoaster of emotions that come with new love. Could you delve deeper into the themes and lyrics of the song and how they reflect this journey?
I like to write songs that can be interpreted in different ways, so the lyrics are detailed enough to inspire an emotion but vague enough that it can be open to interpretation. Tidal Wave is an expression of my experience but my connection isn't the obvious one that most would pull from the song. My love I'm referring to in this song isn't with a person, it's with playing music as a career. Traveling to different countries and playing music for fresh more appreciative audiences has given me a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm for making music again after spending years grinding in the US and killing to the void. - As a seasoned traveler yourself, you've mentioned that "Tidal Wave" is a versatile travel song. How did your experiences as a traveler influence the creation of this track, and what do you want listeners to feel when they listen to it during their own travels?
I wouldn't say I'm a seasoned traveler just yet. But I am definitely on a path that is taking me there. My goal is to play music, travel, and find a way to make a nice living doing that and so far I've been successful. As far as this song, I would love it to inspire those feelings of renewed sense of hope and connection with people and places that sometimes get lost. We often lose ourselves in our work and relationships, we're constantly distracted by nonsense and hypnotized by phones, tv, and political mess. Tidal Wave is a song that should reconnect us with love, nature, and the outdoors. - "Tidal Wave" follows the success of your previous hit, "Heartbreak Soliloquy". We go from a breakup to the emotions of a new relationship, so basically the opposite. Did you want to give hope to your listeners?
I tend to write songs in themes whether it's positive or negative, it's always conveying some kind of emotion. In some ways I think Tidal Wave is the Summer travel romance song and Heartbreak Soliloquy might just be the end of Summer breakup song. So I think by September the Heartbreak will be relevant again. - What's coming next for you?
Two months of solo traveling and playing shows in Europe from Pueblos Blancos Music Fest in Ronda, to Live At Heart in Sweden, and then Stramu Wurzburg in Germany. There is a lot to be excited about. I have another recording session in Spain with the same musicians and I'm hoping to churn out a few more magical songs and keep the vibes in a steady flow.
